Day 2: Transformation Begins

Scripture Reading: Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 5:17

Devotional:

Everyone loves the idea of growing, being transformed, becoming more than we are, and living for a purpose. But transformation means you can’t stay the same. You can’t think the same way or have the same habits and mindsets. To truly step into God’s plan and purpose for your life, you need a renewed mind—a mind that refuses to think and live the way the world does.

Paul says this in Romans 12:2 (Amplified Bible):

“Do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you].”

That word transformed in the Greek is metamorphoō—where we get metamorphosis. Not a small, subtle shift, but a radical, complete transformation. Think of a caterpillar— awkward and unremarkable. But then, through the process of metamorphosis, it emerges as something completely new—a butterfly, soaring in the way it was always meant to.

That’s the kind of transformation God wants for us, but it’s going to require us to embrace spiritual disciplines—new habits that lead to transformation. Not as something to dread or struggle through, but as the very thing that moves us from where we are to where God wants us to be. What if spiritual disciplines are not burdens but gifts—tools God gives us so we can fully experience the life He designed for us?

Jesus isn’t interested in being an add-on to your life—He wants to step in and make you new. Spiritual disciplines—prayer, fasting, studying the Word, worship, rest—aren’t hoops to jump through; they are the means by which God renews our minds and transforms us into the people He created us to be.

So today, instead of resisting spiritual disciplines, embrace them. They are not restrictions. They are invitations. And they are how transformation begins.

Questions:

  1. What is one spiritual discipline you’ve resisted, and why?
  2. How might renewing your mind help you see God’s plan more clearly?
  3. What step can you take today to embrace transformation?

Prayer:
Father, I don’t want to stay the same. I don’t want to conform to the world—I want to be transformed by you. Renew my mind. Change me from the inside out. Help me to embrace the spiritual disciplines that will shape me into who you’ve called me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
